This animation with The Cure’s 1987 track “Just Like Heaven” (off the album Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me) was developed using an original typeface, Friday, inspired by New Wave music from the 1970s and 80s.

Friday’s letterforms are meant to emulate the pop-oriented lightness New Wave brought to post-punk rock, while still capturing the quirky and edgy energies of the genre’s leading artists: The Cure, Talking Heads, and Joy Division, to name just a few. Both sharp edges and curved lines are used to illustrate jerky rhythms mixed with melodic elements.
